Despite all the snow, spring will soon come, bringing warmth and mud. Spring air brings a musty fragrance that seeps through snow like smoke rising from a chimney. It’s time to do a happy dance and welcome warmer, non-snow-filled days. If you don’t know how to dance, the cattle can show you the bovine style.

Every spring, when I let the cows onto a new pasture, they kick up their heels, bounce into the air, and dash for the best patch of grass. It’s hard to imagine a 1,000-pound bovine leaping in the air, but seeing is believing. Winter is almost over, and soon there will be green grass and lush pastures for my dancing cattle.

Join us for the “Cow Crew Experience” at Miles Smith Farm on March 22 from 11 am to 2 pm.

Everyone loves spring, even the Miles Smith Farm’s long-horned Scottish Highland cattle.

At this fun event, you’ll come face-to-face with Scottish Highland cattle. For the price of an alfalfa cube (we supply the cubes), Curious Bleu and Finn, the Scottish Highland riding steers, will let your child climb on their backs to pose for photos. Shaggy Highland steer Owen will give cart rides, and you can snuggle with Venus, the “Oreo Cookie” cow. We also have four calves that your children can run with.

It costs only $20 per adult, and children are free. If it’s still cold (oh no), we’ll have the fire pits roaring to help keep your feet and fingers warm, and we’ll have alfalfa cubes that you can feed the critters. Sign up soon at https://milessmithfarm.com/farm-events, as space is limited.

My creatures and I look forward to seeing you.
